Banded Hours
A right for workers with variable hours to be placed on a contract band reflecting the hours they actually work.
Banded hours give workers whose contracted hours do not reflect the reality of what they regularly work the right to be placed on a band of hours that matches their actual pattern over a reference period.
The measure is designed to protect people on low-hour or if-and-when arrangements, giving them greater certainty over income and their true working commitment.
Employers should monitor hours worked over the reference period and be ready to move workers onto an appropriate band on request.
