Grievance
A formal complaint raised by an employee about a workplace issue that needs to be addressed.
A grievance is a concern, problem or complaint an employee raises formally โ about treatment, working conditions, a colleague or a management decision, for example. A clear grievance procedure gives people a legitimate route to be heard.
Handling grievances promptly and fairly protects wellbeing, prevents small issues from escalating and reduces the risk of resignations or tribunal claims.
A sound process includes investigation, a hearing, the right to be accompanied, a reasoned outcome and a right of appeal, all properly documented.
