Redundancy
Dismissal because a role is no longer needed, rather than because of the individual's conduct or capability.
Redundancy occurs when an employer needs to reduce its workforce because a job is no longer required โ perhaps due to restructuring, closure or reduced demand โ rather than any fault of the employee.
Because it is a form of dismissal, it must be genuine, follow a fair process, and use objective selection criteria and meaningful consultation.
Affected employees may be entitled to statutory redundancy pay, notice and support, and employers should consider alternatives to compulsory redundancy where possible.
