Stay Interview
A conversation with a current employee to understand what keeps them and what might make them leave.
A stay interview is a structured conversation with a current, valued employee designed to understand what motivates them to stay, what frustrates them, and what might tempt them to leave. Unlike an exit interview, it happens while there is still time to act.
By surfacing concerns early โ about workload, development, recognition or management โ stay interviews let employers address retention risks before they become resignations. They also signal that the organisation values the individual's views.
The insight is most useful when patterns across many conversations feed into wider retention and engagement strategy, and when individuals see genuine follow-up on what they raise.
